Ministers swear by election code

By Our Correspondent

Hyderabad, March 4: State government employees and ministers alike, accustomed to throwing rules to the wind, are in a state of confusion with the poll code in vogue and a vigilant Election Commi-ssion.
Ministers are being told by the leadership not to invite trouble. The finance minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, who drove in a private car to his office, obtained a copy of the model code and disposed of files accordingly.
Sources said he rejected files pertaining to the reimbursement of medical expe-nses of several government employees and transfers.
“Approval of the finance department is necessary for bills exceeding the sanctioned amount or in case the treatment is given in non-listed hospitals,” a senior official said.
Sources said the minister referred the file relating to extending the tenure of legal advisers in the AP High Court to the EC.
The minister cleared a file pertaining to recovery of surcharge from village sarp-anches who overdrew funds.
Files pertaining to individual benefits, filling up of va-cancies and transfers were also rejected.
The commercial taxes minister, Mr K. Ramak-rishna received a shock as the district election authorities expressed reservations over continuing to provide the bullet-proof vehicle, sources disclosed.
