Hyderabad, March 8: Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, political adviser and close aide of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, has become a role model for leaders in Opposition parties who are aspiring to become kingmakers.
While the Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, and the Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi are trying to become the next chief minister of the state, their close associates are nurturing an ambition to model themselves after Dr Rao.
Chiranjeevi’s brother-in-law, Mr Allu Arvind, is believed to have declared that his destination would be D Block in the Secretariat from where the mastermind in the present dispensation operates. The TD circles were of the view that it would be a game of musical chairs between industrialists Mr Y.S. Chowdary and Mr C.M. Ramesh.
“Interestingly, neither of the two industrialists realises that Mr Naidu does not intend to have or requires a kingmaker if he comes to power,” a senior TD leader quipped.
The TD leaders recollected instances where some industrialists like Mr P. Prabhakar Reddy were discarded after some time.
Maintaining that the ruling party was fascinated by the KVP phenomenon, a senior Congress leader revealed that in districts, persons known for their proximity to either ministers or legislators refer to themselves as KVP of the respective leader.
This is the first time in state politics that Mr Ramachandra Rao enjoyed such standing. He played a decisive role in both the administrative and political matters in the present regime. Though his critics brand him as extra constitutional authority there are many others who see him as a trustworthy, efficient and reliable counsel of the Chief Minister.
