MPs in musical chairs may unseat colleagues

March 14: Sitting MPs searching for newer pastures are set to create a tumble effect in the Congress list. These MPs are bringing presure on the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Raja-
sekhar Reddy, for renomination from other seats.

Leading this section of MPs is the PCC chief, Mr D. Srinivas, who is now asking for the newly created Malkajagiri Lok Sabha seat.

The former PCC chief, Mr V. Hanumantha Rao, is an aspirant from this seat, and the Congress screening committee has reportedly favoured nominating him. Interestingly, the reason for Mr Srinivas shifting his preference from the Nizamabad Rural segment is that his staunch follower, Mr Ratnakar, has joined TRS and is being tipped for the Nizamabad Urban segment.

Mr Srinivas had first opted for the Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat, only to drop it in favour of his close aide and sitting MP, Mr Madhu Yashki Goud. Mr Srinivas shifted to Nizamabad Rural and now wants the Malkajagiri Lok Sabha seat.

The candidatures of the Union ministers of state, Ms D. Purandareswari and Ms Panabaka Lakshmi, has not been decided. Ms Puran dareswari is insisting on the Ongole or Guntur Lok Sabha seats, where Mr Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and Mr Rayapati Sambasiva Rao are sitting members. One of them will have to be accommodated elsewhere, which will upset plans down the line.
