Congress plans to glam it up

March 11: It seems the Congress has decided to make a song and dance of the polls and bank heavily on the glam quotient.
To take on the two-time minister, Mr Talasani Srinivas Yadav (TD candidate being fielded by the Mahakutami for the Secunderabad Assembly segment), the Congress is planning to bet on the star appeal of actor Jayasudha.
Besides glamour, the Congress is also trying to play the minority card in the constituency which has over 55,000 Muslim and Christian voters.
Jayasudha is a Christian and the party hopes she will not only attract the minority vote but also woo the women. Senior leaders also feel that Jayasudha’s candidature will put an end to the infighting.
However, Mr Pitla Krishna, a Congress warhorse, is confident of being picked over Jayasudha. He claims to have nearly 45,000 voters from the Mudiraj community.
Meanwhile, Mahakutami’s candidate, Mr Yadav said: “I will contest from wherever the party (TD) deems fit. However, Secunderabad is my forte,” he said, and added “I don’t want to comment on Jayasudha’s entry at this stage.”
Elsewhere, other Congress leaders too are on a song. While the party has already acquired the rights of the popular song Jai Ho, the Vijayawada MP, Mr Lagadapati Rajgopal and PCC president, Mr D. Srinivas plan to use qawwali, ghazals and dandiya songs to woo the young voters.
The leaders are getting two albums done with ghazals and qawwalis by singer and music composer ‘Ghazal’ Srinivas.
Mr Rajgopal’s qawwali album is titled Vijayosthu Rajgopal which has 16 songs in it. The songs will be in Telugu and describe the developmental activities, programmes and initiatives taken up by Mr Rajgopal.
Mr Srinivas is also getting an album titled Congress and Nizamabad, which will have eight songs.
His album will include the promises made by his party in the election manifesto this time.
