In Congress, YSR is on everyone’s wish list

Hyderabad

March 19: At a time when most political parties are turning to film actors to give a fillip to their election campaigns, the Congress candidates across the state seem to have only one “star campaigner” on their mind. All of them want the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, to campaign for them. Sources in the party disclosed that even senior leaders like Mr S. Jaipal Reddy, Ms Renuka Chowdhary, Ms Panabaka Lakshmi and Mr Vundavalli Arun Kumar have requested Dr Reddy to campaign in their respective constituencies.
“Nobody has invited the glamorous cine stars to their election campaign. Everyone insists on Dr Rajasekhar Reddy visiting their place,” said Mr N. Manohar, a legislator from Tenali.
Though the party boasts of several actors — Krishna, Jayasudha, Rajasekhar, Jeevitha and Dharmavarapu Subramanyam — candidates are trying their best to get an assurance from their “hero.”
“In the Congress, Dr Reddy is the most popular leader. His visit to any segment would turn the fortunes in the favour of the Congress candidate,” said Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, a senior leader.
“Dr Reddy unique style of delivering speeches is hugely appreciated by the masses, especially in the rural areas,” said Mr D. Sridhar, the Congress MLA from Mandhani in Karimnagar.
Already, more than 254 such requests are pending with the Chief Minister. Interestingly, most of the candidates have received an assurance from their beloved leader.
“But it is near impossible for the Chief Minister to visit all the constituencies. He would be busy with candidate selection till March 25. Dr Reddy could start the campaign only after that,” said a close aide of the Chief Minister.
Considered auspicious by the Telugus, March 27, the New Year day, is likely to be the day when Dr Reddy will start his tour.
