Rajahmundry, March 27: Police seized Rs 9.5 lakh in cash, that was concealed in sweet boxes and the two vehicles used to transport them.
The vehicles belonged to the Praja Rajyam leader, Mr Tammineni Sitaram and were seized at Devarapally in West Godavari at about 5.30 pm on Friday.
According to the police, two vehicles loaded with cash, saris, T-shirts with logos of Chiranjeevi and Mr Sitaram and calendars deliberately skipped the check post at Jeelugumilli when the security men asked for the vehicles to be stopped at about 4 pm.
The security personnel alerted the Deverapally police to track the vehicles.
The police intercepted the vehicles at Deverapally and searched it.
The two vehicles were on their way from Hyderabad to Srikakulam. The police officials have taken the MLA, Mr Tammineni Sitaram’s two drivers and the gun man Mr M. Rama Rao into custody for questioning.
