March 14: The “other woman” in their lives is causing trouble to ticket aspirants of many parties.
Political rivals are ferreting out tales of bigamy to spoil the chances of their competitors. Mr Rasamai Balakishan of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti is one seat aspirant who is taking flak for his second marriage.
A popular folk artiste who leads the Telangana Dhoom Dham troupe, Mr Balakishan was eyeing the Manakondur seat of Karimnagar district.
He had initially married one Ms Razia after falling in love with her. Everything was going well when Mr Balakishan met Ms Kavitha who joined his troupe.
Soon love blossomed and he married her too.
Though Ms Kavitha’s parents lodged a complaint with Siddipet police, she denied that she married him under duress.
Also, his first wife asserted that he married Ms Kavitha with her consent.
The bigamy allegation surfaced recently after he met the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, seeking a ticket for himself and three more artistes of Telangana Dhoom Dham.
“It is a political conspiracy to defame me,” he said. “Some jealous leaders are trying to tarnish my image though I have not harmed anyone.”
In another case, a Praja Rajyam leader was found to have sought a ticket for his “second wife” in Medak district. Her application was kept aside once the truth became public.
However, Mr Rapolu Anand Bhaskar, general secretary of the APCC, said that the Congress was not focusing on the “marital” issue. “Few peep into the personal lives of other candidates,” he added.
A Telugu Desam leader said that the party president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, was looking for candidates with clean records.
“If anybody is found to be involved in bigamy, his application is normally ignored,” he added.
