March 14: Election fever seems to have spread across universities in the state if one goes by the intense political activity on the campuses. All the major political parties have deployed their youth wing leaders to campaign among students.
While the Opposition parties are focussing on the “anti-student” policies of the government, the ruling Congress is hoping that the total fee-reimbursement and large scale recruitment drives being undertaken by the government will work in its favour.
Campuses of Osmania University, Hyderabad Central University and Acharya NG Ranga Agriculture University have seen intense political activity of late.
“The government failed to provide 2.5 lakh government jobs and conduct DSC exams every year. Higher education has become costly as fees to various professional courses has been gone up since the Congress came to power,” said Mr N Narsi Reddy, Telugu Nadu student federation, the youth wing of Telugu Desam.
The TRS is campaigning against injustice to Telangana students. “The government’s indifferent attitude towards the region can be inferred from the fact that it did not release enough funds for the newly-established Telangana university in Nizamabad even after three years,” said Mr Venkatesh Goud, leader of TRS youth wing.
The Praja Rajyam is focusing on the unemployment issue.
