Hyderabad, March 22: The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy, his Cabinet colleagues and officials will have to confine themselves to taste Ugadi pachadi at the official Telugu new year, Virodhinama Samvatsaram, celebrations at the Ravindra Bharathi on March 27. Thanks to the election model code of conduct.
They have been barred from making political speeches and remarks at the celebrations. Even the siddhanthis, who recite the traditional panchangam, should avoid making predictions on the political, election and development in the state.
“There are, however, no restrictions on the participation of the Chief Minister, his Cabinet colleagues and officials at the Ugadi celebrations. They are not supposed to make political speeches or remarks,” said Mr I.V. Subba Rao, the chief electoral officer.
“We will issue a set of guidelines for the Ugadi celebrations on Monday. It will include the do’s and don’ts for the participants including ministers, officials and siddhanthis,” he said.
The commission will also frame guidelines at the district-level to be followed by public representatives and officials.
Normally, the purohits recite panchangam praising the achievements of the government and also predict “good results” for the ruling party on the occasion of the Telugu new year.
