Hyderabad, March 27: The Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) has decided to field candidates in all the 294 Assembly constituencies with the aim of defeating the Telugu Desam-led Grand Alliance (Mahakutami).
It released its first list of candidates for 217 constituencies on Friday causing much heartburn to the leaders of the Opposition coalition.
Since Madigas constitute a considerable chunk of voters in every constituency, the MRPS decision is likely to affect the winning prospects of the Grand Alliance candidates.
The decision may not affect the Congress that much, since it has got considerable clout among Malas, another scheduled caste group.
“While the Congress has deceived us on SC categorisation, the Grand Alliance has insulted us by turning down the repeated requests of the MRPS to allot seats to defeat the Congress,” said Mr Manda Krishna, leader of the MRPS, after releasing the first list.
He added that the insult meted out by the Grand Alliance was more painful than cheating by the Congress on the categorisation issue. “We will teach them a fitting lesson in the elections by working collectively for their defeat,” he said.
The MRPS is confident that its candidates can split 2,000 to 30,000 votes in every constituency and spoil the winning prospects of both the Grand Alliance and the Congress.
