Hyderabad
March 24: Most of the criminal cases, including those of
serious nature ranging from attempt to murder and forgery to rioting, against politicians are either under investigation or pending for trial.
Thanks to the apathy of the police department, which sits on these cases paving way for MLAs, MPs and MLCs having criminal background to contest, none of the cases end up in conviction.
A senior police officer said, “There is political pressure to pursue these cases. It is very difficult to chargesheet politicians. Even if chargesheets are filed, the investigators would rarely concentrate on collecting evidence. So they end up in acquittal.”
The TD MLA from Rayachoty, Mr S. Palakondrayudu, was accused in two
attempt to murder cases and three other criminal cases of serious nature.
Similarly, TD MLAs Mr D. Narendra Kumar from Ponnur in Guntur district, Mr Kodali Nani from Gudivada, CPI MLAs Mr Chada Venkat Reddy from
Indurthy and Mr M Babu Rao from Badrachalam are among those facing criminal charges.
