March 17: Cine hero Balakrishna, the TD star campaigner, on Tuesday faced off with his sister and Congress Union minister, Ms D. Purandareswari.
Balakrishna set up a meeting right in front of her house at Karamchedu, twirled his moustache and slapped his thigh.
Without naming Ms Purandareswari, her younger brother said that the minister had deceived local farmers by not fulfilling her promise to buy their rain-hit stocks.
He said his sister and brother-in-law, the Parchur Congress MLA, Dr D. Venkateswara Rao, had failed to name the Hyderabad international airport after N.T. Rama Rao. “They never felt any pain about this. It is sad,” he said.
“We have lots of freedom fighters and reformers but the government names all schemes after Rajiv and Indira which is a shame to Telugu people,” he added.
After this, he praised Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, in apparent retaliation to Ms Purandareswari for warning him in a series of publicised letters to be wary of the TD president on his “use and throw policy.
On their part, the Daggubatis eschewed histrionics and denied that they had deceived the farmers. They asked Balakrishna not to behave “childlishly.”
