Hyderabad, March 4: “Get familiar” is the new mantra being adopted by emerging leaders to get tickets from various political parties. The neo-rich leaders with loads of money to contest the elections have understood that moolah alone will not get them tickets.
They are adopting innovative methods to attract locals as well as party leaders. Some of them are participating in padayatras in their respective constituencies to grab the attention of the media and public.
Realtors who became rich during the boom are now giving a tough competition to established leaders. Political leaders who used to get the backing of realtors during elections are now shocked with the ambitions of the latter.
They are unable to digest the fact that their followers have now become their competitors.
The neo-rich leaders are attracting youngsters with biryani packets, petrol coupons, T-shirts etc.
With the new followers, they are able to familiarise themselves in constituencies like Uppal, Malkajgiri, LB Nagar, Serlingampally and other areas. Huge flexi boards with their photos are also being set up at all important junctions.
The senior leaders are furious over the emerging leaders since no space is left for them to put up their own flexi boards at key locations. “Mere money power does not help anybody to win elections. People will certainly verify the credentials of candidates. The leaders who have the desire to serve the public can shine in the long run,” said a BJP leader.
