April 4: A former police constable has now taken on retired IPS official in Mahbubabad Parliamentary Constituency in the general elections.
Mr P. Balaram Naik is contesting the polls on a Congress ticket against retired additional director general of police, Mr D.T. Naik, of the Praja Rajyam.
Mr D.T. Naik, who entered politics after he was given a ticket said, “The fight will be between me and the Congress candidate.”
His opponent Mr Balaram Naik worked as a constable in the AP Special Police battalion for at least two years in the beginning of his career. He later took up the job of a telephone operator in the Assembly and then became a realtor.
Mr Balaram Naik said: “I resigned from the job as a constable and worked in the AP Legislative Assembly for 20 years. I do not have any tension of fighting the election against an IPS official. I have came from a family which has a political background. Most of my family members hold key posts in government. I am proud of my humble beginning.”
