Kutami faces acid test today

Hyderabad, April 15: The Mahakutami will face its first acid test on Thursday in the first phase of elections and its success depends solely on the transfer of votes among the allies besides voter acceptance of the promise of separate Telangana, cash transfer scheme, and colour TV scheme.

After a month of hard work and several hiccups including rebels and unofficial candidates, the transfer of votes will play a key role for the alliance. Though the Telugu Desam and the TRS suspended some party leaders for defying their party directives and contesting the elections, the anger over the loss of tickets is pinching leaders in the alliance partners.

“We are confident the transfer of votes will take place smoothly. Our trump card is the cash transfer scheme, colour TV scheme and the NTR integrated health scheme,” Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu told party leaders in a teleconference. The TD president also reportedly spoke to the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, and the Left leaders to ensure voters turn up in large numbers, which is crucial for the Mahakutami.

The fate of several key alliance leaders including the TRS chief’s son, Mr K.T. Rama Rao, CPI floor leader Chada Venkat Reddy, Telugu Desam deputy floor leader, Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, Politburo member Kadiam Srihari, CPI Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy, TRS Vijayashanti, Siasat Editor and TD nominee Zahid Ali Khan will be decided in the first phase of elections and their success will largely depend on transfer of votes.

The CPI nominee and official candidate of Mahakutami, Mr Chada Venkat Reddy, who is contesting from Husnabad Assembly segment, has been dumped by the TRS. The TRS is backing their party leader Capt. Laxmikantha Rao, leaving the CPI candidate and TD chief in a fix.
