Hyderabad, April 15: The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, has charged the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) of blocking the development of Telangana region and said the party had scuttled the efforts made by the Congress to consider the issue in a dispassionate manner at every stage.
Excerpts from an interview:
On Telangana: The TRS ministers in the Central Cabinet resisted the constitution of the Second States Reorganisation Committee and thereby closed all doors for the formation of Telangana. It showed what Mr Chandrasekhar Rao was up to. He was the one who abused Mr Naidu in 2004. Now Mr Naidu has become a beacon for him.
When the TRS shared power at the Centre and the state, several moves were initiated by the Congress to take the party along for a consensus opinion on the issue. Unfortunately, it was stubborn and did not come forward. The CPI(M) which was a ‘red rag’ to the TRS, has become a friend in just one year.
On Grand Alliance:
The Mahakutami cannot be called a Grand Alliance. How can it be called an alliance without a common agenda and programme. I would like to know whether political alliances are formed anywhere without a common programme. It amuses me when people call it as a Grand Alliance. I am confident of winning in the elections and I believe in the goodwill of the people.
Even after completing my medical course, I preferred to serve the poor than go abroad for higher studies.
Development in Telangana:
A lot of development has taken place in Telangana in the last five years. There is sufficient electricity and water.
The development transformed the lives of four crore people. This is evident as there was no fresh recruitment to the extremist groups and collapse of the Left-extremism. The change my government has brought about is clear and visible to people. Did anybody else think of taking up a gigantic project like the Pranahita-Chevella that would transform the agrarian face of the drought-prone region?
On poll calculations:
The Mahakutami was formed by leaders of the alliance and not at the grassroot level. There are bitter quarrels in the alliance. For the first time, the Congress is riding on a positive vote. We are sure that our voting percentage would cross 51 per cent.
Almost all surveys till date say the Congress will return to power. I am sure that we are going to win over 230 seats this time. The fruits of development has reached the common man and will positively help the Congress.
