Hyderabad, April 15: Political stalwarts like Mr Bandaru Dattareya of the BJP, Mr Asaduddin Owaisi of the MIM, minister M. Mukesh Goud of the Congress and Mr T. Srinivas Yadav of the TD, have gone through it earlier.
For 50-odd candidates, contesting the Assembly elections for the first time, it will be an acid test when the 15 Assembly segments and two Parliamentary constituencies in Hyderabad district go to Phase-I polls on Thursday.
Right from the 68-year-old Mr Zahid Ali Khan of the Telugu Desam and Mr Samy Mohammed of Javeri family from the BSP in fray from Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat to actor-politician Jayasudha Kapoor of the Congress from Secunderabad, and from Wakf Board former chairman Muhammad Saleem contesting from Jubilee Hills to youngster S. Rambhotla and Prince Imdad Jah Bahadur from Nizam’s royal family in fray from Secunderabad Parliament constituency, several prominent personalities are making their electoral debut this elections.
Pitched against ministers, MPs, legislators and seasoned politicians, it is going to be a test of their nerves and electoral fortunes at the hustings when the polling begins at 7 am on Thursday.
As per the figures available with the Hyderabad district election office, nearly seven lakh youngsters below the age of 23 have registered their names on the voters list since 2004. It is going to be a first election for all these too.
Then there are 113 Independents in fray from the 15 Assembly segments in Hyderabad district. Pro-poor welfare schemes by national and regional parties like Arogyasri (Congress), colour TVs and cash transfer (TD), and cash benefits for girl child (BJP) have not dampened their spirits, after all they are “Independents.”
In all, 31,70,819 (31.70 lakh) voters including 16.35 lakh men and 15.35 lakh women will decide the fate of total 270 candidates in fray from Musheerabad, Amberpet, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Sanathnagar, Nampally, Secunderabad, Malakpet, Karwan, Goshamahal, Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura, Bahadurpura and Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly segments.
