Kutami hits out at CM

Hyderabad, April 17: The Mahakutami on Friday condemned the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, for trying to whip up regional passions to get votes in coastal and Rayalaseema region in the second phase of polls.

Dr Reddy had said that if the Mahakutami came to power and Telangana was carved out, people from other regions including Andhra would be treated as foreigners in Hyderabad.

Protesting the statement, Mahakutami leaders submitted a memorandum to the chief electoral officer seeking action against the Chief Minister for promoting hatred among the people of different regions in violation of the People’s Representation act, the Indian Penal Code and model code of conduct.

The Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, who is touring Krishna district, lashed out at the Chief Minister for indulging in false propaganda against the Mahakutami fearing poor performance by the Congress in the first phase of elections.

“The Chief Minister’s statement divides people,” remarked Mr Naidu.

The Chief Minister had also cautioned the people of Rayalaseema that if they voted the Mahakutami to power, Krishna water would not be supplied to the region.

“Mrs Sonia Gandhi has promised Telangana but YSR made a U-turn and has said that we will end all projects,” said the TD Parliamentary party leader, Mr Yerrannaidu.

The TRS leader, Mr T. Harish Rao, also criticised the Chief Minister’s statement and said that people of all regions and states could live in Hyderabad in amity.
