Cash rains where fights are tough

Rajahmundry, April 20: Contestants of all political parties are vying with each other to woo voters by raining cash and liquor in East and West Godavari districts with the campaigning set to end by 5 pm on Tuesday.

Voters are offered amounts ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 2,000 depending upon the toughness of the contests.
To mobilise huge amounts to distribute among voters, the contestants are using trusted aides to carry cash bags evading cops.
Currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 are stuffed in gunny bags and mobilised through various means. Reports say that some candidates’ aides place cash bags on top of RTC buses. Some are even using EMRI 108 ambulances with connivance of drivers as cops rarely check an ambulance if it is carrying a patient in a serious condition.
Once the money reaches its destination, party workers take a list of the voters and distribute the cash.
They mainly focus on slum dwellers and try to ensure their votes by giving a few hundreds of rupees.
It is also learnt that aides of candidates are providing poor men cheap liquor filled in bottles labelled with names of popular brands.
