Tirupati, April 18: The minister for health insurance and the Congress candidate from Chandragiri Assembly seat, Ms Galla Arunakumari, will launch a marathon political campaign in her constituency on Sunday.
The campaign, “Merupu relay”, will cover over 100 km and 100 villages in 12 hours.
Ms Galla Arunakumari’s son and industrialist, Mr Jayadev Galla, said at press meet that “Merupu relay” is something unique that could get a mention in the Limca Book of World Records or even the Guinness Book. “The earlier attempt of this kind was by the NCP chief, Mr Sharad Pawar, who covered 65 villages,” he said. “We are going to break this record by covering 100 villages.”
Merupu relay will kick off at Nagalacheruvu in Chandragiri at 6 am and conclude at Avilala in Tirupati at 6 pm. Ten teams comprising thousands of Congress activists will participate in the campaign.
100 villages covered in 12 hours
Tirupati, April 19: The state health insurance minister and the Congress candidate from Chandragiri, Ms Galla Arunakumari, set a record on Sunday by campaigning in 100 villages in 12 hours.
After offering prayers at the Goddess Nagalamma temple, Ms Arunakumari launched the “Merupu Relay” campaign at Nagalacheruvu village near Chandragiri at 6 am and the programme concluded at Avilala in Tirupati at 6 pm.
Mr Jayadev Galla, the minister’s son who monitored the campaign, said his mother has broken the record of the NCP chief, Mr Sharad Pawar, of covering 65 villages in 12 hours in Maharashtra. “Details of the feat will be submitted to the Limca Book of Records and the Guinness Foundation,” he said.
Ms Arunakumari’s campaign received good response from people at many places.
The minister said she will bring golden era to the Chandragiri constituency and added that top priority will be given to provide the villages with basic amenities. She listed out the development programmes taken up by the YSR government. She also spoke about the promises listed in Congress manifesto.
