Poll over, CM does T-twist

Kurnool, April 16: Immediately after the first phase elections ended in Telangana, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, revived his anti-statehood stand and cautioned the people of Rayalaseema that if they voted the Mahakutami to power, Krishna water would not be supplied to the region, and people from the region would not be allo-wed to go to Hydera-bad.

Speaking at a public meeting in Nandyal along with the AICC general secretary, Mr Rahul Gandhi, the Chief Minister said diversion of the Godavari into the Krishna river would not be possible if Mahakutami was voted to power.

Dr Reddy said Rayalaseema would not get water if the Mahakutami won. It would not allow people of the region to go to Hyderabad by putting several restrictions.


Voter turnout down in several constituencies

Hyderabad, April 16: The polling percentage in several Parliamentary constituencies that went for elections in the first phase on Thursday when came down drastically compared to the 2004 general elections.

As many as nine Lok Sabha seats registered poll percentage of above 70 per cent in 2004 as against just three in the current elections.

Only Medak, Warangal and Mahbubabad polled above 70 per cent.

Significantly, Warangal registered the highest poll percentage of 78.82

in 2004 while Medak which topped the list in 2009 polled only 75 per cent. Film actor Vijayashanti is testing her electoral fortunes from Medak.

Poll percentage in Mahbubnagar from where the Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, is contesting was 64 and in the neighbouring Nagar-kurnool also a similar poll percentage was registered.

The Hyderabad and Secunderabad Lok Sabha seats registered 54 and 56 per cent respectively as against 55.73 and 52.59 in 2004.

The newly carved Malkajgiri Parliamentary constituency which has the highest electorate registered 60 per cent.

According to latest reports, the poll percentage in Adilabad was 65, Peddapalle 56, Karimnagar 57, Nizamabad 62, Zahirabad 62, Medak 75,

Malkajgiri 60, Secunderabad 56, Hyderabad 54, Chevella 62, Mahbubnagar 64, Nagarkurnool 64, Nalgonda 60, Bhongir 60, Warangal 70, Mahbubabad 70, Khammam 62, Araku 61, Srikakulam 60, Vizianagaram 68, Visakhapatnam 64 and Anakapalle 62.
