Eluru, April 14: Reacting sharply to the Praja Rajyam’s claim of allocating 104 Assembly seats to the backward communities (BCs), the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, said the PR was deceiving people by providing seats to the members of other communities (OCs) in the name of BCs.
Speaking to newsmen here on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that a Praja Rajyam leader, who deserted the party recently, had announced publicly that of the total list of BCs, nearly 40 were bogus. He also recalled Chiranjeevi’s statement stating that not 40 but only 14 names were bogus.
Pointing out at one Mr Ramachandraiah, a contestant from the Kadapa district, who the PR claims is a BC candidate, Dr Rajasekhar Reddy said that he knew the contestant and was sure that he was an OC. He also expressed doubts over the BC list of nominees for Parliamentary seats.
Turning his attention to the Telugu Desam chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister sought stern action by the Election Commission. Dr Reddy said Mr Naidu was behaving in an undemocratic manner. He said the TD chief was directing party nominees and cadre to spend money to win the seats.
Dr Rajasekhar Reddy sounded confident of winning 230 Assembly seats and 36 Parliamentary seats in the polls.
