Kakinada, April 15: The Telugu Desam president, Mr Chandrababu Naidu, promised to extend the money transfer scheme to all eligible farmers apart from families below poverty line.
Participating in a series of election meetings in East Godavari on Wednesday, the former Chief Minister expressed concern about the plight of farmers under the present Congress rule and promised to help these sections in all possible ways if the TD comes to power.
Mr Naidu addressed roadside meetings at Indrapalem Locks in Kakinada city limits, at Pedapudi, and G. Mamidada which falls under Anaparty Assembly segment under Rajahmundry parliamentary constituency.
While addressing various issues, Mr Naidu expressed concern over the alarming rise in the prices of essential commodities including rice and pulses.
He sympathised with women who manage the kitchen and warned that the prices of rice will double from the current price of Rs 35 a kilo to Rs 60 in the open market if they give the Congress a second chance.
He also pointed out that pulses like red gram and black gram were being sold at Rs 60 a kilo.
Mr Naidu also promised to waive loans extended to self help groups and provide each group with interest-free loans to the extent of Rs 25,000 if the TD is voted to power.
He criticised the Chief Minister, Dr Rajasekhar Reddy, for the rampant corruption in the state.
The Rajahmundry MP candidate of TD, M. Murali Mohan, Kakinada MP candidate, Mr V. Satyanarayana, the district party president, Mr N. Chinarajappa and others leaders were present at the occasion.
