KCR’s performance to influence creation of T

Hyderabad, April 11: The Telangana Rashtra Samiti president, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s decision to contest from the backward Mahbubnagar constituency, where the party has little or no influence, has shocked his supporters.

Leaders from all political parties assert that the verdict on the TRS chief will decide the fate of a separate state. “If Mr Rao wins, the Telangana issue will be alive. If not, it will die,” says a senior TRS leader.

The TRS chief is once again using the Telangana card to woo voters in the constituency. He is taking on the sitting Congress MP, Mr D. Vittal Rao, BJP’s K. Yadagiri Reddy, the Mana Party nominee, Mr B. Balaraju Goud, and 28 other candidates.

Women outnumber men here. Out of the 29,13,331 voters, women constitute 14,77,573 voters while men account for 14,35,759 voters. The Assembly segments falling under the constituency are Mahbubnagar, Kodangal, Narayanpet, Jadcherla, Devarkadra, Makthal and Shadnagar.

“These elections are crucial for achieving separate Telangana,” Mr Rao said. He went a step further and added that “Telangana issue will be gone for ever, if people don’t support him.”

The TRS chief’s campaign appears to have struck the right chord among the voters in the region. He is promising double track railway line between Hyderabad and Mahbubnagar, drinking water to every village, irrigation facilities to every acre of land, a junior college in every mandal, a junior college at Kondurg and degree colleges at Kodangal and Shadnagar, apart from a sports stadium at Shadnagar and bus depot at Kodangal.

However, Congress MP, Mr D. Vittal Rao dismissed the TRS chief’s claims. “He is a non-entity here. The TRS has no influence and people do not believe in him. The Congress has done yeoman work in the district and has taken up several developmental works. The TRS chief has taken people for a ride on the Telangana plank.”
