Dial 1100 to complain against political parties

By J.R.PRASAD
Hyderabad, March 2: The elections will be held in five phases, starting from April 16 and concluding on May 13. The model code of conduct came into effect immediately after the chief election commissioner, Mr N. Gopalaswami, announced the schedule for the polls.
Under the code of conduct, parties defacing compound walls with graffitis or disfiguring private residential buildings by putting up flag-posts adjacent to compound walls, tying political banners and pasting wall-posters without permission is punishable. Any affected house owner can lodge a complaint with the Election Commission by posting a mail on www.ap.govt.in/c2g or dialling a toll-free
number 1100.
The code directs the parties and its candidates to respect the right of every
individual for peaceful and undisturbed home-life. Organising demonstrations
or picketing before the houses of individuals by way of protesting against
their opinions or activities should not be resorted to under any circumstances, the code states.
Even while organising rallies and holding public meetings, due permission has to be obtained from the authorities in order to cause any inconvenience to residents.
For the use of loudspeakers, the party should apply to the authorities well in advance for permission.
