Hyderabad, April 1: The searing sun is forcing many candidates to opt for SMS campaigns during noontime. And this is having an affect. Candidates conduct meetings and visit houses during morning and evening, but at noon, the SMS campaign touches a high along with the temperature.
The party cadre, particularly the youth, are also not willing to come out for campaigning at mid-day.
With temperatures almost touching 40 degree celsius and expected to soar further as polling date draws closer, candidates would be depending more on SMSes to keep in touch with the electorate in the afternoons.
Mr G. Kishan Reddy of Bharatiya Janata Party starts his campaign early in the morning and seeks votes from joggers and walkers in parks.
But at noon, his appeal for votes appears in mobile phones of many a voter.
BJP workers are helping him in this by collecting the mobile numbers of his voters so that he could send SMS appeals.
Other candidates too are conducting their door to door padayatras early in the morning and in the evening and turn to mobiles at noon.
Interestingly, voters too prefer to get political SMSes during afternoons.
“It is better than getting them when you are about to start for the office or when you have reached home after a tiring day,” said a resident of Amberpet.
Actor Jayasudha is also using SMS appeals to keep in touch with voters. Her supporters also send SMSes to women’s self help groups in advance when she visits slums helping her to get a huge response.
