NIZAMABAD, April 4: The Assembly Speaker and Congress candidate from Armoor Assembly constituency, Mr K.R. Suresh Reddy, said there was no anti-incumbency feeling in the state and people would re-elect the Congress led by the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.
“They have benefited from the largescale welfare and developmental programmes that were taken up by the Congress government,” he said in an exclusive chat with this newspaper.
“People should support the Congress to continue the welfare and developmental programmes.”
Mr Suresh Reddy said that he was insistent on high ethical standards in the polls. “I respect my competitors and expect ethical standards from them too,” he said.
Mr Suresh Reddy was elected as MLA for the first time from Balkonda Assembly constituency in 1989 and repeated his victory in 1994, 1999 and 2004 polls from the same constituency.
This time he has switched over to the neighbouring Armoor Assembly constituency from Balkonda.
The Speaker, however, said this happened only because of delimitation. “The Armoor constituency also contains the Balkonda segment,” he said. “I have deep attachment to the people of Balkonda and I will always keep in touch with them. I will definitely take up responsibility for the development of Balkonda.”
Mr Suresh Reddy said that the differences among Congress leaders in the Armoor Assembly constituency have already been sorted out.
“Everyone is working together for the victory of Congress candidates,” he said. “Congress leaders and workers are actively participating in the election campaign.”
He said that he would strive to set up an information technology park at Armoor and agro-industry park in Nandipet mandal to provide employment opportunities to the youth and better services to the farming community. In addition, road connectivity, drinking water and modern drainage system would be provided to Armoor municipality
Mr Suresh Reddy expressed confidence at scoring a fifth victory in the hustings.
“The Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, has vowed that he would not let me into the Assembly but it is for the people to decide,” he said.
