Battery ad hits Congress

Tirupati, April 5: A serious discussion erupted in Chittoor district over the advertisement of Amara Raja factory owned by the minister for health insurance and Chandragiri Congress candidate, Ms Galla Arunakumari in a leading Telugu daily on Sunday.

The advertisement seeks people to purchase a battery to help their children overcome power cuts during examination.
Senior Congress activists said the advertisement created havoc among the cadre as it sent wrong signals about the performance of the state government and the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s policy on power. “The advertisement says students are suffering because of power cuts. It is a big advantage to the Opposition parties.”
The Praja Rajyam official spokesman, Mr Saikam Jayachandra Reddy, said Ms Arunakumari had lost the moral right to ask for votes.
“It is a shameful attempt to cheat the public. She has directly accepted the failure of the Congress government in the state,” he added.
