Hyderabad, April 11: Film actor Jayasudha, who is contesting on a Congress ticket from Secunderabad, is finding it difficult to don the role of a politician in real life.
On Saturday, she abandoned her campaign in Shantinagar in disgust and went home after a fight broke out between warring groups of her own party.
Disappointed ticket aspirants from the Congress are already up in arms against her. A few of them burnt her effigy while others protested with the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, for fielding her.
Sources said that Mr Pitla Krishna, senior Congress leader from the constituency, is upset over her candidature and is not lending her his complete support.
This makes it tough for Jayasudha who is fighting the Telugu Desam candidate and former minister, Mr Talasani Srinivas Yadav in the constituency. She was forced to shift her residence from Gachibowli to Secunderabad as he called her a “non-local”.
Also, the Opposition has criticised her apparent reluctance to campaign in the scorching sun. “The problem is the attitude of a few leaders,” she said.
“They should realise what message they give to the people when they behave this way. I spoke to all the leaders who are disappointed as they didn’t get the tickets. I am sure they will all work for me.”
The actor is now banking on her fame and the welfare schemes of the state government to coast to a victory.
“Talasani Srinivas has to gather a crowd, but when I went for campaigning, people come to see me and ask for autographs,” she said.
Jayasudha added that she was not a regular politician and this made it difficult for her to do certain things. “I am here to be different from other politicians,” she said.
