ISB students told to seek solace in Gita

Hyderabad

April 4: The chairman of Indian School Of Business, Mr Rajat Gupta, advised the students of the 2009 batch who are passing out to seek solace in the philosophy of Bhagavad Gita in this season of recession.
This philosophical tip became necessary since hardly 270 of the 437 students got placements this year, thanks to economic slowdown.
To cheer up the students, the chairman read out the famous sloka of ‘Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachana” during the graduation ceremony held at ISB campus on Saturday.
Explaining the meaning of the verses, he told them that they should do their best and should not worry even if they don’t get a suitable job.
“You are all passing out during challenging times,” he said. “Some of the students are still in the process of finding a suitable job. As the Bhagavad Gita says, do your best and don’t think of the end result.”
Mr Arun Sarin, former chief executive officer of Vodafone was present at the graduation ceremony as the chief guest. Mr Sarin also advised the students to make the best of the current circumstances and be positive. “Don’t worry about temporary set backs and start innovating,” he said.
Every year, ISB conducts a media conference and declares the highest salary that a student recruit has been offered, the average salary and the number of students who have got placements.
But this year, ISB authorities did not divulge any information through sources said the average salary this year was approximately about Rs 13 lakh as against Rs 19 lakh last year.
ISB has assured the students that they would assist them with their placements till they get a ‘suitable’ offer.
We have set up a task force to get the placements for the students this year,” said Mr Ajit Rangnekar, dean of ISB. “The recession affects job offers at higher levels and not at entry levels."
