EC to ‘shoot’ voters in sensitive poll booths

Hyderabad, April 1: The election authorities will click photograph of each voter in the hyper-sensitive booths to prevent rigging and impersonation.

The state election authorities and the police identified 2,200 politically hyper-sensitive stations where a single party polled more than 95 per cent votes in the last elections.
Largescale voting was witnessed in many polling stations in Kadapa, Kurnool and parts of Anantapur district, and Assembly segments in the old city here.
“We will deploy a person with a digital camera who will take snaps of voters when they make an entry in the 17-A register kept with the presiding officer,” said the Chief Electoral Officer, Dr I.V. Subba Rao.
The register will contain details of the voter, signature or thumb impression and the nature of proof in support of identity. Though the authorities initially thought of installing CCTVs, the plan was shelved because of the high costs involved.
