Adilabad hit by blue film racket

The police received dozens of complaints that some unidentified gangs were morphing the photographs of local girls on pornographic material to give a “local flavour” and thus make a fast buck.
However, the police is yet to trace the gangsters. It has also not registered cases so as to protect the identity of the victims.
The modus operandi is simple. The gangsters click the photographs of college students without their knowledge. Later, using computer technology, they morph these photographs on foreign pornographic material including videos.
Samples of the photographs and videos are then sent on mobile phones luring prospective customers to purchase the material. Since the “actors” in the pornographic material are “locals”, the gangsters sell it for a high price.
Recently the father of a girl, whose picture was morphed, committed suicide unable to bear the humiliation. The police sent the photographs to state forensic laboratory, Hyderabad, for verification. The report is still awaited.
Assistant superintendent of police, Mr Tarun Joshi, admitted that they had received complaints. “We are not revealing the names of the complainants including the victim girls,” he said. Mr Joshi advised parents to be extra careful. Girls should not approach strangers and if they come across any suspicious characters, they should report to the police immediately.
While the racket is thriving in backward Adilabad, police in Hyderabad said it has not come across such incidents so far. “There were incidents of shooting with webcams in Internet cafes. But, morphing of pornographic pictures or videos has not come to our notice,” DCP (DD) Mr R.S. Praveen Kumar said. These gangs are very active in Mumbai and Chennai.
