Hyderabad, March 30: Actors who have entered the political arena have surpassed regular politicians when it comes to “defections”.
Many actors have changed loyalties from the parties to which they were initially affiliated. They have moved from the Telugu Desam to the Congress and the BJP and vice-versa.
The senior actor, Sharada, who was a Telugu Desam MP from Tenali a few years ago, joined the Congress recently.
Similarly, veteran actor Kaikala Satyanarayana who also served as a TD MP from Machilipatnam, has now pledged his support to the Congress.
Though Sharada said that she joined the Congress as she was impressed by the policies of the government, it is known that she wanted to contest from Tenali seat on Congress ticket this time.
Meanwhile, actors Bhanuchander and Giribabu who were with the BJP for more than a decade have joined the Congress recently.
Congress leader Ambati Rambabu and actor-turned-politician Dharmavarapu Subramanyam are in touch with more actors.
“We are not poaching them; they are joining on their own impressed by our policies,” said Mr Rambabu.
“They will all campaign for us.”
Actor Krishnam Raju, who was also a former union minister of the BJP, has ditched his party and joined the Praja Rajyam recently.
Though he said he was impressed by the ‘change’ slogan of Praja Rajyam, sources said he “changed” his loyalty only after he was promised the Narsapuram ticket from.
