Hyderabad, April 6: Senior Praja Rajyam leaders Mr P. Upendra and Mr K.S.R. Murthy on Monday expressed displeasure at the way candidates were selected in the party.
Speaking to mediapersons at the PR central office, both of them said the party leadership had not consulted them while allotting tickets. “Had the party leadership consulted seniors like us, we could have chosen better candidates,” said Mr Murthy.
Interestingly, soon after making these allegations the two leaders participated in a media conference held by Chiranjeevi to release the party manifesto.
When mediapersons reminded Chiranjeevi of the allegations made by the two leaders on allotment of tickets, the Praja Rajyam chief made light of their criticism saying it only showed the internal democracy in the party. “In fact, every party has such troubles,” he said. “But, since the Praja Rajyam is a transparent party, people, especially reporters, are able to know every small development in the party. Other parties hide the internal disturbances.”
Chiranjeevi also alleged that the Congress and the Telugu Desam had planted “agents” in his party to know what was happening.
“Since the Praja Rajyam is a fledgling party, our detractors are trying to create confusion among public by magnifying every minor happening,” said Chiranjeevi. “But despite small problems, our rail engine will move on to attain power in the ensuing polls so as to bring about a desired change in society.” Meanwhile, Dr G. Samaram, the official spokesperson for Vijayawada urban unit resigned from the PR as he was denied an Assembly ticket.
