Hyderabad, April 7: Election contestants are apparently making actor-turned-politicians jealous by enacting various roles better than the reel heroes. They are going about ironing clothes of voters, preparing breakfast for them, milking cows and even polishing shoes.
The Praja Rajyam candidate from the Kukatpally Assembly seat, Mr K. Venkatesh Goud, milked a cow for a voter during the campaign. In the neighbouring house, he fed the cows.
The Telugu Desam candidate from LB Nagar, Mr S.V.Krishna Prasad, donned the hat of a barber and shaved the beard of a voter in a saloon.
“I am doing this to show my commitment to serve the people,” Mr Krishna Prasad said. His BJP rival, Mr Ramesh Goud, cut the hair for a few customers at a local barber shop.
Mr Sama Ranga Reddy, the PR candidate from L.B. Nagar, lifted a heavy rice bag on his shoulders.
The BJP state president, Mr Bandaru Dattatreya, also had his share of antics. He sold vegetables in the pushcart of a hawker in Secunderabad.
The PR candidate from Khairatabad, Mr Vijayendra, literally fell at the feet of a voter during his election campaign when he polished the shoes of a bystander in Maktha the other day. He then went on to prepare tea at a roadside eatery.
The BJP candidate from Goshamahal, Mr Prem Singh Rathod, made chapatis at Rahimpura while canvassing among
women.
While the candidates believe they are carrying out an innovative campaign, the voters are enjoying themselves.
“Film actors, who took the political plunge may not have mastered the art of politics, but their political colleagues are outperforming them as far as acting is concerned,” said Mr K. Simharayalu, a resident of Barkatpura.
