Hyderabad, April 5: The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, has adopted a unique plan to help the Congress win the maximum number of seats from the Telangana region.
The new mantra seems to be winning over the dissidents from Opposition parties to help the Congress.
After the formation of the Mahakutami, the Congress had to change its gameplan to beat the alliance.
The first step was getting in touch with the Opposition leaders who were denied tickets by their party and invite them to join the Congress.
If that failed, the Congress had ‘Plan B.’ Here, the party moves to the second rung leaders who could change the poll dynamics in a particular constituency. If that too failed, the leaders would be asked to remain silent during campaigns for their party.
“This formula was used in the Karimnagar bypoll in 2008 and it reaped good results,” said an MLA from Karimnagar.
Now, the Congress camp is concentrating on Mahbubnagar and Medak Lok Sabha constituencies from where the TRS chief, Mr K. Chandrasekar Rao and actor Vijayashanti is contesting. With Mr Chandrasekhar rao’s decision to shift from Karimnagar, the winning chances for the Congress have brightened.
With four sitting MLAs in Karimnagar, the Congress is all set to grab this LS seat.
Mahabubnagar, in south Telangana, where regional sentiment has never played a role, is under Congress lens. The party is trying to find leaders from other parties who are ready to change loyalties. With the TD local cadre not willing to support the TRS chief, the Congress has gained momentum.
Medak LS segment where both the TRS and the TD cadres are not coming forward to support Vijayashanti, the Congress has already lured local leaders in its favour. The Chief Minister is overseeing the party poll strategy in some of the key constituencies in Telangana with an aim to unsettle the Grand Alliance. Sources said his strategy has already started yielding results.
