Hyderabad, April 6: It’s not the development programmes or welfare schemes that some candidates are highlighting during their campaigns, but whether the opponent candidates are “locals” or not.
The “local” candidates are making determined efforts to highlight the non-local status of their opponents in many constituencies.
For instance, the Telugu Desam candidate from the Secunderabad Assembly constituency, Mr Talasani Srinivas Yadav, has been highlighting the “non-local” status of actor Jayasudha, who is the Congress candidate there.
“I have been associated with the Secunderabad Assembly constituency for nearly 20 years,” said Mr Yadav. “I was elected MLA several times from here, and I know every nook and corner of the constituency and the problems faced by the people. But actor Jayasudha has no idea about the constituency and the people here as she stays in Jubilee Hills.”
Mr Yadav is urging voters to elect him saying he will be available for them round the clock.
The Congress candidate from Amberpet Assembly segment, Mr Fareeduddin, also faces the same problem. The BJP candidate, Mr Kishan Reddy, and the TRS candidate, Mr K. Jagadeeshwar, are aggressively picking on Mr Fareeduddin as he is a resident of Medak.
“I have taken out hundreds of padayatras to know and solve the problems of people. Non-locals would not be accessible as locals,” said Mr Kishan Reddy.
