Panic in wedding halls

Hyderabad, Dec. 3: The shooting of police personnel by terror suspects on Wednesday afternoon created panic in function halls of Santosh Nagar, Champapet, and Karmanghat where hundreds of marriages were taking place. All the localities are well known for big function halls and Santoshnagar is one of the busiest centres of Hyderabad.

Tension prevailed for more than three hours in the localities where business establishments were closed down immediately after the firing incident. People who attended wedding functions ran helter skelter as rumours spread that the terrorists were attacking public places in several parts of the city.

Couples who got married as well as their families were disappointed by Wednesday’s happenings. "After the terror attack in Mumbai, most people are worried about safety in public places," said Mrs. J.V.Harika who attended a wedding reception in Karmangha. "It led to chaos in the function halls." "Luckily, the incident occurred after the Muhurtam," said Mr Y.Rajeev, an executive of a private company. There were also traffic jams in several places
