10,000 couples rush to tie knot on rare muhurtham

Hyderabad Dec. 2: A rare muhurtham that comes once in 150 years will see thousands of couples tying knots in the city on Wednesday. As the Kalasarpa Dosha ends on Wednesday morning, with the conjunction of Jupiter (Shukra) and Venus (Guru), the purohits have said the time between 7.25 am and 9.32 am is auspicious for marriage.
Approximately 10,000 couples are said to get married on Wednesday in the city. As a result, the demand for function halls has gone up. Several halls will host more than two weddings at the same time.

Many are even forced to get married in temples, registration offices and at their own homes as well. According to Vedic Purohits, Wednesday, which is a Sashti, coincides with the Shravana Nakshatram which is the birth star of Lord Venkateshwara. They consider this combination of conjunction and Margashira masam with Shravana Nakshatram to be an auspicious time for marriage. “It is after 150 years that this kind of muhurtham has come. This will be possible again only after 60 years. Couples married during this muhurtham will be blessed with good health, wealth and knowledge,” said Mr Govardhanam Bhattacharya, a disciple of Sri Chinnajeeyar Swamiji.

Since there are no marriage muhurthams for 50 days — from December 22 to February 11 — due to Shunya masam and Mudyami, couples are rushing to get married, according to astrologers. “Kalasarpa Dosha will end on Wednesday morning. The last minutes of this Dosha are very auspicious. This is a very rare occurence,” said Srinivasa Gargeya, renowed astrologer. Though purohits say that there are good muhurthams till December 15, many believe Wednesday to be the best choice.
