Hyderabad, Nov. 28: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is planning to deliver Electoral Photo Identity Cards of voters at their doorsteps. The additional commissioner (elections), Mr K. Sudhakar, told this correspondent that as many as 54,301 ID cards have been issued in the last few days.
"Our aim is to deliver the ID cards at the doorsteps of the voters," he said. "They need not run around the municipal offices to obtain one." Those who do not receive the ID cards should verify whether their name exists on the electoral rolls.
This can also be done online through www.ceoandhra.cic.in or www.ghmc.gov.in. If the name exists, the ID card will be delivered in due course of time. Otherwise, citizens have to register their names for enrolment. The GHMC commissioner, Mr S.P. Singh, has asked officials to ensure that door-to-door distribution of ID cards is done between 7 am and 10 am before people go to work.
He also reviewed the process for publication of electoral rolls. The draft rolls will be published on December 3 and corrections, claims and objections will be accepted up to December 18. The last date for disposal of claims and objections is December 31 and final electoral rolls will be published on January 10, 2009. Mr Singh said a special campaign will be conducted on December 13 and 14 in all the Assembly constituencies of Hyderabad to identify corrections, if any, in the draft electoral rolls right from booth level.
Officers deputed for each polling booth accompanied by the booth agents of all recognised political parties will take part in the campaign. The GHMC commissioner added that nearly 50,000 people had applied for registration through drop boxes arranged at 2,000 locations in the city.
Of them, 51.57 per cent were disposed off after completion of due inspection and verification. He also warned of stringent action on officials lagging behind in conducting field inspections and timely submission of election related information.
