Hyderabad, Nov. 4: The Telugu Desam's "Yuva Garjana" meeting seems to have made youngsters out of many of the party's ageing leaders. Not content with telling people that they are young at heart, they are dyeing their hair thick black to appear young. Even those who haven't dyed their hair are hell bent on dominating the meet.
This may give people memories of old days when aged actors such as N.T.Rama Rao and Akkineni Nageswara Rao wore wigs to play the role of young heroes. Though the Yuva Garjana meeting being held on Wednesday is meant to lure the youth away from Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam, it is grey haired men who are running the show, leaving no space for youngsters.
The Telugu Desam leadership has appointed 12 committees to oversee the arrangements of the Garjana, and 11 of them are headed by leaders such as Mr Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Mr K. Yerran Naidu, Mr M.V. Mysoora Reddy, Mr K. Dayakar Reddy, Mr N. Siva Prasad, Nannapaneni Rajakumari, Mr Alladi Rajakumar, Mr C.L.Venkata Rao and Mr Gadde Babu Rao, all of whom are above 50. Even the two observers appointed by the party in each district to mobilise young people are above 50.
This evoked protest from the young MLC, Mr Revent Reddy, during the state committee meeting of the Telugu Desam held two days ago at NTR Bhavan. Despite this, the old-timers are all geared up to dominate the show by hiding their wrinkles. Ironically, the star of the show is going to be actor Balakrishna, who is 49 years old. Junior N.T.R has decided to stay away from the event. Probably he is too young for the show.
