Allu, Mitra differ on alliances for elections

BY J.R.PRASAD

Hyderabad, Sept. 3: Differences have emerged among leaders in the Praja Rajyam on forging alliances with other parties. The PR president, Chiranjeevi is now in a catch-22 situation as his brother-in-law Mr Allu Aravind is reportedly in favour of a pact with the BJP, whereas the party spokesperson, Mr P. Mitra, prefers the Left parties.

According to sources Aravind is pressurising Chiranjeevi for an alliance with the BJP in the wake of the CPI(M) leaning towards the Telugu Desam. Mr Aravind was quoted as saying: “It is better for us to sail with the BJP. Though its presence in the state is little, it has got a committed cadre in every constituency, which will give us an edge in a triangular contest.”

Though Mr Aravind and Mr Mitra are close friends, they differ in ideology. This became evident on Wednesday when Mr Mitra called on the CPI(M) leaders Mr Sitaram Yechury and Mr B.V. Raghavulu to reportedly get them into Chiranjeevi’s fold. Interestingly Mr Mitra did not rule out a possible pact with the BJP.
