Parties start yatra season

BY J.R.PRASAD

Hyderabad, Sept. 21: Rath yatras have become the norm for political parties as they prepare for the Assembly elections scheduled for 2009. In a bid to prepare activists, leaders of various political parties have planned state-wide tours.
Even as the Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi is busy chalking out his programme, the TD president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, has decided to go on another round of Mee Kosam Yatra after October 2. Mr Naidu is expected to tour every district for three days a week.

Chiranjeevi will hit the road by this month end. “Chiranjeevi will tour the state from the last week of September. His itinerary will be finalised in a couple of days,” the PR spokesperson, Mr P. Mitra, said. During his maiden political campaign, the actor-turned-politician will address roadshows and brief meetings. “He will not indulge in political gimmicks like sleeping in dalit wadas,” Mr Mitra added.

However, NTR’s son and film actor Balakrishna will go on a rath yatra to nullify Chiranjeevi’s effect on the TD. According to party sources, the Telugu Desam’s Yuva Garjana rally will be held in the second week of October in Guntur district. Balakrishna, along with other actors from the NTR families will take part in the rally. After that he is likely to start his own yatra.

While the Nava Telangana Praja party president, Mr T. Devender Goud, is already touring the state, his counterpart in Telangana, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has decided to tour Telangana after October 2. The BJP state president Mr Bandaru Dattatraya has already started the Telangana Sankalpa Yatra at Vemulawada in Karimnagar district. He will tour Karimnagar, Medak and Adilabad districts.
