Hyderabad, Oct. 26: The Praja Rajyam has intensified its efforts to attract women who form a major chunk of voters after two months of launching the party. The PR organised a conference on "Empowerment of Women" at Miyapur on the outskirts of Hyderabad to go closer to the fairer sex. Women from different parts of the state attended the meeting.
While addressing the gathering, Chiranjeevi said his party will give utmost priority to women. He said that the PR will set up a college and a hostel exclusively for women in every mandal headquarters throughout the state if it was voted to power. He added that the PR will try its best to get the Women’s Reservation Bill passed in the Parliament.
"Our party will work for the empowerment of women and the poor. We will accord top priority for them. The PR will come up with a clear-cut policy soon," Chiranjeevi said. He also disclosed that the PR would prepare its election manifesto keeping in mind the needs of the common man and the middle-class. Referring to the personal attacks being made by the ruling party and the Telugu Desam against him, the PR chief said: "I never care about criticism as long as I am committed for the upliftment of poor. As I am not selfish those sharp remarks do not affect me."
He called upon the participants at the meeting and the PR cadre to maintain utmost restraint towards critics. While praising the fair sex’s role in shaping the man’s destiny the matinee idol showered accolades on his wife. "Behind every successful man, there is a woman. Obviously my wife’s enormous co-operation and contribution made me a successful actor in the film industry."
Impressed by the speech given by Ms Munemma from Nellore, the PR chief said, "She deserves a place in the law-making body. The PR will send her there." Meanwhile, the PR leadership is planning to hold some more meetings like this to garner the support of the women voters across the state.
