Congress MPs from Telangana region are once again doubtful whether the Centre would really take a positive decision on state bifurcation issue or not.
The euphoria is on the wane. Faith is again replaced by skepticism. Optimism is succeeded by pessimism.
Congress MPs from Telangana region are once again doubtful whether the Centre would really take a positive decision on state bifurcation issue or not.
The eight MPs, who are vocal about Telangana statehood issue-- Ponnam Prabhakar, Manda Jagannadham, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, Madhu Yashki Goud, Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy, Siricilla Rajaiah, G Vivekanand and Palvai Govardhan Reddy--- are once again expressing doubts, during private talks with scribes, on the commitment of the Centre as well as Congress high command over according statehood to the region.
All these MPs, who hailed Centre’s decision at the allparty meeting held two days ago, were now unable to convince themselves that the government would take a favourable stance on the issue within 30 days.
“Our party leadership asking to send representatives from each party to the all-party meet to air their views itself indicates that the high command is still unable to take a decision on the issue.
Will our party leadership, which has been evading the issue for several years, really take any decision in just 30 days time? It is unbelievable,” said a senior Congress leader from Telangana.
The Telangana MPs on Saturday had a lengthy meeting at senior Congress leader and Telangana advocate K Kesava Rao’s residence here and resolved to undertake Delhi tour to exert pressure on their high command.
The extension of their solidarity to the Telangana bandh call, given by TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao, also indicates their lack of confidence on their high command.
The MPs, who had differed with Rao and even criticised him for giving a bandh call on Friday, retracted on Saturday and said that they would extend their support to any political party, which takes up protest demonstrations to exert pressure on the Centre for a positive decision on Telangana.
“We will continue our protest programmes till the Centre announces a roadmap for Telangana state.
We will announce our fresh action plan on January 4,” said MP Ponnam Prabhakar.
Meanwhile, former minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy demanded the ministers from the Telangana region to join the movement.
He said he was ready to resign from his assembly membership.
On the other hand, leaders from Seemandhra exuded confident that the Centre would not bifurcate the state.
Following Union minister Shinde’s reference to Gorkhaland issue during the all-party meeting, Seemandhra leaders now feel the Centre might announce a similar package and regional development council for Telangana also.
Seemandhra leaders like minister TG Venkatesh and Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal are of the opinion that the Centre will not take any positive decision on the issue.
