Roads and buildings minister Dharmana Prasada Rao’s issue seems to be continuing to haunt the ruling party.
Though chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has succeeded in passing a resolution in the state cabinet meeting recommending to the governor to reject the CBI’s plea to prosecute Dharmana in connection with the charges levelled against the minister in the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s assets case, some of his colleagues are unhappy with the way Dharmana’s issue has overshadowed the issue of according statutory status to SC/ST sub-plan during the cabinet meeting on Friday.
“With the cabinet keeping its focus mainly on rejecting the CBI’s plea to prosecute Dharmana, wrong signals have gone to people.
At a time when we are fighting against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy over his corruption, our decision to save Dharmana from CBI’s prosecution will surely have some negative impact on the party’s image,” said a senior minister, who remained silent on the issue during the cabinet meet.
According to him, as TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress leader Sharmila Reddy are showering freebies on various sections of people by undertaking competitive padayatras, the ruling party should also try to extensively publicise its welfare schemes instead of finding ways to save “tainted ministers”.
Even PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana is understood to have expressed his displeasure over the way Dharmana’s issue dominated the SC/ST sub-plan during the cabinet meeting.
Had the cabinet meet given more focus to the SC/ ST sub-plan, the state government’s commitment towards the welfare of SCs and STs would have gone to the notice of people very well, Botcha is said to have remarked with his confidants.
