In the wake of TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao’s plans to revive the Telangana movement, ministers and Congress MPs from the region are vertically divided on mounting pressure on the high command for an early decision on the Telangana issue.
With the TRS chief deciding to target the Congress for the inordinate delay over the T-issue, some ministers and Congress MPs from the region want to step up pressure on their party leadership to resolve the T-issue at the earliest, whereas some others are of the opinion that they should give more time to their leadership in this regard.
MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, G Vivekananda, Gutta Sukhender Reddy and Manda Jagannadham, who are very vocal in criticising their high command over the T-issue, have decided to raise their voice during the forthcoming winter session of Parliament, beginning on November 22.
They feel that further delay in according statehood to the region would fully damage the electoral prospects of the Congress, which is already in a moribund state there.
They want to use the Parliament session to push the party top brass to take a decision on the T-issue and some of them are even planning to quit the party in the event of their failure to get any positive response from the party.
“We are not in a position to move among people in our constituencies. People are vexed with our repeated statements that formation of Telangana state is possible only with the Congress. If our high command still continues its dilly-dallying attitude, the electoral prospects of the party will be damaged irreparably,” said MP Gutta Sukhender Reddy.
However, some MPs along with newly-appointed Union ministers Sarve Satyanarayana and P Balaram Naik differ with this argument.
They do not want to pressurise the high command further over T-issue. They are of the view that the Congress leadership is determined to find a permanent solution to the bifurcation issue.
“Our high command is putting in all efforts to resolve the Telangana issue. According statehood to the Telangana region is possible only with the Congress,” said Sarve Satyanarayana.
Quoting Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s latest statement that the process of consultations is still going on over the T-issue, these leaders want to give some more time to their high command to resolve the contentious issue.
