AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi is likely to tour the state in the near future to resuscitate the Congress which is in a moribund state now.
The scion of the Gandhi family is said to be worrying about the party’s pathetic situation in the aftermath of its drubbing at the just-concluded bypolls in the state and wants to revive the fortunes of the Congress in the state which sent as many as 33 Congress MPs from the state to the Lok Sabha in the 2009 polls.
The young leader, while talking with state Congress leaders who met him in Delhi recently, expressed his desire to tour the state after the election of the country’s vice-president to know the ground situation in the state. He will interact with party workers and second-rung leaders to know and get a grip on the the real issues plaguing the Congress.
Rahul has held talks with about a dozen leaders including MPs Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, KVP Ramachandra Rao, V Hanumantha Rao and Madhu Yashki Goud, Paladugu Venkata Rao and former mayor of Greater Hyderabad Banda Karthika Reddy. He made enquiries about the implementation of welfare schemes, reasons for the drift of the party’s traditional voters towards YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and infighting in the party. He even posed questions on the possible solutions to the contentious  Telangana issue.
“He wants to know all the reasons for the party’s poor performance in the bypolls before drawing a roadmap to strengthen the party in the state,” said Karthika Reddy who met him a day ago.
The AICC general secretary wants to know the reasons for the declining popularity of the state government though it is implementing novel welfare schemes like one-rupee rice, zero-vaddi loans and Arogya Sri.
“I have explained to Rahul Gandhi the reasons for the plummeting popularity of the Congress. But he has up-to-date knowledge of the happenings in the state Congress. I am sure he can set things right.”  Paladugu Venkata Rao, who has met Rahul four times so far, said he had requested Rahul to join the Union cabinet  to strengthen the UPA government.
Rahul Gandhi is likely to meet more leaders including MLAs to prepare an action plan to put the state Congress back on rails.
