Is the Congress’ extended executive committee meeting, slated for Sunday, an exclusive effort by the PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana to consolidate his position in the party? Is he trying to get an upper hand over chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy by holding this convention? The non-involvement of the chief minister’s camp in the arrangements for the convention give rise to these doubts.
Several important leaders and ministers, who are close to Kiran Kumar Reddy, are not taking part in the preparations for the state-level convention.
Ministers K Parthasaradhi and Kondru Murali Mohan, government chief whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy and M.
Ranga Reddy, MLC, are of the opinion that by holding the convention the PCC chief is attempting oneupmanship in the party.
“Since Kiran Reddy has earned brownie points from the party high command by embarking on the Indiramma Baata, the PCC chief too is now trying to endear himself to the top brass by holding this convention,” one of chief minister’s aides said.
As if confirming the suspicion, Botcha has deployed only his confidants Shabbir Ali, M Gangadhar and G Rudra Raju to oversee the convention preparations.
Kiran Reddy had reportedly objected to the Botcha’s plan at first.
His apprehension was that the T issue and the delay in filling the nominated posts in the government would give a handle to the second-rung leaders to attack the party and government leadership.
But he agreed after being convinced that the convention would provide another platform to them to publicise the government’s welfare schemes.
