Be it the finance minister or home minister or a member of the core committee, all sitting MPs of the Congress will be vetted by Rahul Gandhi before being given a ticket for the next general election.
To assess the performance of all Congress sitting MPs, 50 ‘secret agents’ have been appointed by Rahul Gandhi.
They are currently doing recces of all Lok Sabha constituents including those represented by heavyweights. Six members of this team of 50 are from Andhra Pradesh.
One of them, for instance, has been asked to assess the performance of finance minister P Chidambaram in Sivaganga.
The performance inspectors from AP include MLCs K Yadav Reddy, Rudraraju Padma Raju, Bhanu Prasad, K L Durgesh, state Mahila Congress president K Ganga Bhavani and Gidugu Rudra Raju.
Each member of the team has been assigned 10 constituencies and given a questionnaire of 30 questions, and armed with demographic data and profiles of the ticket aspirants.
Items in the questionnaire relate to the candidate’s commitment to the party, his or her image among the people, whether he or she is facing any corruption allegations and whether there is any other person with significant clout among voters. Members of the team have been designated as ‘facilitators’.
The constituencies allotted to each facilitator are a secret. Which means, that the incumbent MP will never know which facilitator scuppered his chances of being renominated.
During their recces, the facilitators hold meetings with legislators, party seniors, and cadres separately and collect feedback from the aam aadmi too.
In segments represented by the opposition parties, the facilitator is required to prepare a list of probable candidates, with winnability as the main criterion.

AICC general secretary and Gujarat MP, Madhusudan Mistry has been given charge of this exercise.
